Alawandi Betageri Lift Irrigation Scheme

Consultancy Services for Preparation of Detailed Project Report, for the Work of Distribution Network for Additional Command Area of 3000 Acres under Alawandi Betageri Lift Irrigation Scheme in Koppal taluk and Koppal district

Client:

M/s Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Ltd

Project Description:

On study of the topography, it was found that the south part of Betageri village which is about 3000 acres can be covered by providing a delivery chamber at elevation 525.50m in Sy. No 456, w hich is the highest point in the proposed command area. As per the crop water requirement it was found that an additional 0.206 cumecs of water is required to cover this area. The peak design discharge Alawandi-Betageri LIS scheme is 1.602 cumecs.

The total discharge requirement for covering 9000 acres i.e., contemplated area of 6000 acres and additional 3000 acres works out to 1.808 Cumecs.

To meet the additional water requirement of 0.206 cumecs, it was planned whether that, in the same Rising Main can carry the additional discharge main by providing an additional pump. For this additional discharge, velocity on the pipe will be increased to 2.4 m/sec, due to which pump head will also increase. Also, the presently installed capacity of pumps cannot pump the additional discharge. Hence the option of pumping additional discharge of water in the raising main was not possible. So, separate lift scheme was planned and proposed to lift the water by providing submersible pump in the existing Forebay structure of Alawandi-Betageri LIS.

Proposed a separate raising main for a length of 4.30 Km to discharge the additional requirement of water for irrigating the additional command area of 3000 acres. Accordingly, prepared a separate DPR for lifting the additional water requirement (i.e., Q = 0.206 Cumecs) by KNNL. The cost of DPR was Rs.16 Crores.

The tender was floated by KNNL, for the construction of Head work of this scheme, including rising Main and delivery chamber. Also, the work was awarded to the agency. Rising Main has been laid, erection of Electro-Mechanical components and construction of Delivery Chamber is under progress
