Consultancy Services for Detailed Survey, Investigation, Preparation of Drawings, Designs, Detailed Engineering Reports and BOQ for civil works for filling up of existing 180 No’s of MI/ZP Tanks in Hangal taluk of Haveri District by Lifting water from Varada River near Balambeedu village in Hangal Taluk on Turn-Key basis as per KNNL’s requirement.

Tank-180

Client:

M/s Adithya Construction Co

Project Description:

Haveri district is located in middle part of Karnataka. West part of Byadgi, and south part of Hanagal in Haveri District is hilly terrain and higher elevated areas. These are not covered under any major irrigation projects. The dependability of water for drinking, farming, and other uses in this area is depending on rain, and small storage of MI/ZP tanks.

The average annual rainfall is less than 647mm and unevenly spreads in the rainy year. The water retaining structure in the district (MI/ZP Tanks) are not filled since from 10-12 rainy years due to scanty and uneven rain fall. The minor irrigation and Zilla Panchayat tanks are built to serve the need of drinking water requirement of the rural population, Achkat comes under the command area of tanks and domestic animals and act also as percolation tanks. The percolation covers 2-3 kms surrounding of the tank and ground water is recharged. This is leading to scarcity of drinking water in summer. The ground water is also dwindling during this period. The rural population and the animal population are suffering due to scarcity of water. An alternative solution is required to be evolved to fulfil drinking water requirement of this area through filling of MI/ZP tanks.

The proposed MI/ZP tanks are located at North part of Hanagal, in Haveri district. These villages are located towards north of Varada River. The above villages are located at upstream side of the command area of the Dharma project.

The river Varada is near to these village tanks, and it is the only dependable source in the vicinity which can be considered as source of water for the present proposal. The flow of water in river is almost 4-5 months of the year, hence the detailed survey is carried out for filling of MI / ZP tanks in Balambeedu, Hangal and Belgalpet and Hanagal taluks of Haveri District. The proposal comprises lifting of 1.335 TMC of water in 90 days in a year from Varada River. The flow data shows that flow in the river is sufficient to take the project for filling 50% of the tank capacity with 25% of evaporation losses. A report on water availability at lifting point is obtained from Chief Engineer, WRD. The gauged flow of Varada River at Hosaritti gauging point confirms that required quantity of water is available for lifting during monsoon.
