Project Description:
The existing Kallola Barrage across river Krishna near Chikkodi taluk, Belgaum district is in deteriorated condition and the piers got damaged due to floods. The pier reinforcements supporting the bridge are exposed due to the damages done by floods. As such the barrage structure is not capable of taking the water loads and the safety of the structure is doubtful. In view of this, it is proposed to construct a new barrage of same storage capacity i.e., 7.5 m depth above the crest on the downstream side of the existing barrage by installing needle gates installed in between the series of small piers. Already a high-level bridge is under construction on the upstream side of the barrage which can serve for road communication for the near villager’s population. In view of this the new barrage structure is only a storage structure without any bridge for public communication
