Project Description:

It is proposed to construct Vented Dams under Paschimavahini Scheme in Mangalore North Constituency of Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka, It has an average elevation of 30m above mean sea level. The city is the administrative headquarters of Dakshina Kannada district and is the state’s largest coastal urban centre. The summer gives way to the monsoon season, when the city experiences the highest precipitation of all urban centres in India due to the influence of the Western Ghats.

In the past during rainy season and after rainy season the water poured by nature flown through river, nalas, and streams goes to the nearest sea. Almost 90 % of such water is wasted and gets un-utilized as this water is does not accumulate at one place the capillary level of water remains unchanged.

Construction of these dams will servers the purpose of storage for irrigation purposes and serves the connectivity between two places.

Proposed Dam are to be constructed across streams/Rivers in Mangaluru North Constiuency. The locations are around Nethravathi river. Construction of these Bridge cum Barrage serves the purpose of both storage and connectivity between the two villages. The Construction of these vented dams provides irrigation facility to 98.61 Ha of Achkat Area. The total Storage capacity of the 20 locations varies from to 0.01 MCFT to 1.21 MCFT with a total storage of 3.67 MCFT. This is also increasing the Ground Water Level.

The cost of the proposed Bridge cum Barrage works for 20 VD is out to be Rs 2670.00 Lakhs
