Project Description:
The proposal to fill the Mukkumpi and other tanks is to mitigate drinking water problem which is prevailing in Gangavathi taluka since decades. Scanty rainfall and unrestricted ground water extraction has resulted in drying up of bore wells, meant for supplying drinking water. Water that is being supplied from deep aquifers has high concentration of fluorides and nitrates to certain extent which will have adverse impact on human beings. Since the average rainfall is in these areas is 478.55 mm and which is not contributing much to the recharge of ground water table. There is no permanent source for providing water supply in the vicinity of the villages. The Government with a vision to rescue the suffering public and provide safe drinking water has responded prepared a proposal. The hon’ble minister for minor irrigation, Govt of Karnataka has instructed to explore the option of getting drinking water to the water starved area of Gangavathi Taluk of Koppal District and to prepare an estimate for supplying water to Mukkumpi and other tanks by lifting from the downstream of Tungabhadra River in rainy season excess flood water.
Proposed scheme of lifting water from the Tungabhadra River to fill the identified 10 No. of tanks in Gangavathi taluk of Koppal district, which will augment the drinking and Irrigation requirement of existing command area planned under these tanks. The scheme envisages lifting water from Tungabhadra River to Mukkumpi tank and connecting downstream tank network.
