Project Description:

Manipal is a suburb and university town within Udupi, in coastal Karnataka, India. It is one of the cleanest towns in India. The major rivers which are flowing in Dakshina Kannada are Netravathi, Kumaradhara, Gurupura(Phalguni), Shambavi, Nandini and Payaswami all join the Arabian Sea at Uppinangadi.

The Netravathi River has its origins at Bangrabalige valley,Yelaneeru Ghat in Kudremukh in Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka, India.

The construction of Bridge cum Vented dam is proposed across Netravathi River at Maipala in Kokkada village for the purpose of Irrigation purpose which also serves as a connectivity between the two villages. The geographical location of site is at Latitude = 12° 53.923’N, Longitude = 75° 20.503’E The FRL proposed for storage is 38.00m.

The quantity of about 0.77 MCM of water is stored at a height of 5.500 m and a length of 180.00 m.

Components of the project consist of Construction of Bridge cum Vented dam of length of 180.00m. 13 nos of Vertical lift gates of 12 m width with gate height at 5.5 m and skill level at RL 32.50 m. The Vertical lift gates are operated by individual Rope drum hoist 40 Tonne capacity supported by steel frame over the piers. The Rope drum hoist operates from RL 51.20 m.

This project gives the importance of agriculture to the people and the project will greatly improve the economic condition and the quality of life of the people residing in that area. The road provides the connectivity between two places Kokkada and Patrame, Belalu.

The total cost of the Vented Dam, its appurtenant works including other protection works will be Rs 72 Crores
