Project Description:

VJNL, Upper Bhadra Project (UBP) is a major lift irrigation scheme under implementation in the central region of Karnataka state. It envisages lifting up-to 17.40 TMC of water in first stage from Tunga to Bhadra and lifting 29.90 TMC of water in second stage from Bhadra to Tunnel near Ajjampura, crossing the bridge between Tungabhadra sub basin and Vedavathy sub basin to cater the water through Tarikere LI scheme, Chitradurga branch canal, Tumkur branch canal and Jagalur branch canal.

The primary objective of the project is providing sustainable irrigation facility in Kharif season for 2,25,345 Ha by micro irrigation in drought-prone districts of Chickmagalur, Chitradurga, Tumkur and Davanagere.

The secondary objective of the project is to recharge the ground water table in order to dilute the chemical contaminants of which Fluoride is predominant and provide drinking water by filling 367 Tanks in drought-prone taluks of the above said districts.

The present proposal is to provide Drip irrigation (excluding laterals) for2492.80Ha consisting of approximately block-5 (Package-4) by off taking at CH: 119.636Kmof Tumkur Branch Canal
